in my bag
happy to say i am back in my bag on my food photogtaphy and i am in the best mental space i have ever been and it's just upwards and forward from here. lately i've been catching up on my reading on the subject of photography along with video tutorials i purchased a while back. it's a library of videos going into things like composition techniques and how to just be intentional about how you set up your scene. i read and watch the videos and then i pause and pick up my camera because of inspiration and wanting to practice.
on my threads account i have posted some of those practice photos, but i will eventually delete those, so if you want to follow along on my photography journey, you can click on the highlight circle on my instagram titled muscle memory to see other practice photo's i've taken that's not necessarily food. i have them nicely curated.
this photo here is the perspective of an overhead shot of oranges and blueberries, the composition here is about geometry which in this case would be the circle shape of the round oranges and round blueberries. then we have the composition of repition of having the oranges and blueberries in abundance. we also have the composition of the rule of thirds of the top orange on the left. i like to leave imperfections on the the fruits and veggies. it feels like art to me.
i then placed them in a container on top parchment paper, initially i was planning on including the edges of the parchment paper in the frame but i didn't like how it looked. i was able to instead find art in the stains left behind on the parchment paper by the fruits and just added some text to it, to fill in negative space. i transferred the photos from my canon to my phone using SD card read from apple and just edited the photos on my phone, below are my setting used in these photos:
Lens: EFS 24mm/Macro Lens
ISO: 800
Aperture: F16
Shutter speed: 1/30
Perspective: Overhead shot
